Orange County resident Jack Braun of Slate Hill, a hamlet of Wawayanda, died in Sullivan County around 1:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 22, on Route 17 West in Mamakating.

Three passengers were also severely injured. All attended Minisink Valley High School in Orange County, according to the district's superintendent, Brian C. Monahan.

The unidentified driver of the vehicle, another 17-year-old, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, assault, and DWI, state police said.

Following the crash, the Minisink Valley Community set up a GoFundMe to help the family and honor Jack's memory.

The fund has raised almost $20,000 so far, and another GoFundMe for a bench in his memory has raised more than $345.

Not much has been released about the teen, who played lacrosse and was known as a friendly student.

New York State Sen. James Skoufis (D-District 42), whose district covers the Minisink Community, said on Instagram: "My thoughts are with the family and friends of Jack Braun, who passed away after an accident this weekend. The passing of someone so young, with their whole life ahead of them, is a tragedy, and my condolences are with the whole Minisink community during this difficult time."

An obituary has not been released as of Wednesday, Sept. 25.
